How would you characterize the potential of art?
I have since the sixties made an effort to limit musical materials as much as possible, complexity arises when different, simple ‘things’ are placed in relation to one another. These meetings can often sound chaotic – as so-called reality also does. Which is supported by the fact that my music’s motives often have a thing-like character. The long deceased Poul Nielsen once said of my “Reprises” (1965)... “it is sound as sound - and sound as expression” ... and there is “ a voice that speaks and a voice that remains silent.
What characterizes a good work of sound/musical art?
We each have our reasons for finding a work successful and each work has different – quite different and diverse – reasons for being successful.
What moves you?
I myself have tendencies and desires that pull in different directions. I am almost automatically attracted to the “strictly implemented”. But why then am I so enthralled by the unexpected, provocative, reckless, cheeky and not to say naughty? And a peal of laughter once in a while can be a relieving gift.
