Simon Steen-Andersen is a composer and sound-artist. He works, in his compositions and installations, with both visual and aural expression and has a formidable ability to absorb already existing aesthetics, make them his own and from there bring the music a notch further up and out. One seldom has the impression of listening to music from another world, rather a person from another world who is further developing this world’s music.
Simon Steen-Andersen has studied composition in Aarhus, Freiburg, Buenos Aires and Copenhagen with Karl Aage Rasmussen, Bent Sørensen, Mathias Spahlinger, Gabriel Valverde and Hans Abrahamsen. He has received numerous prizes and many commissions and scholarships; amongst others, Presences China (2008), Leonie Sonning’s Music Grant (2006) and The Danish Arts Foundation’s 3-year Work Grant (2006), and has furthermore had works performed in more than 20 countries.
