Info

The performance, which has its world premiere on the festival, draws inspiration from The Pied Piper of Hamelin, reflecting on mass seduction and society’s fascination with strong leaders. In a child’s bedroom at bedtime, a drama unfolds between the siblings Constantia and John. Constantia expresses distrust in adult authorities, whom she believes cannot secure a safe and sustainable future for the next generation. John, taking a more pragmatic and conservative stance, insists that children have never had it better.

Constantia sees the charismatic Pied Piper, Hans Mushalle, as a liberator from adult wars and environmental disasters, while John warns against simplistic solutions and revolutionary ideas. The conflict intensifies when Hans Mushalle draws near, accompanied by the city’s children, who are lured from their beds by his enchanting song. The performance combines film and live music, and the title refers to the proverbial “elephant in the room”.
